One of the many great things about the New Year is that we get to review past promises to ourselves, create new ones and revise several others. This year my focus will be on integrating technology into my classroom. The first step is for me to educate myself, I am currently working on my Masters in Informational Technology. The next step is to research, what works and what does not. Is there a better way to find out than hear from others regarding their successes?
I currently teach tenth grade English in a small town in North Carolina. I teach composition and World Literature. Does anyone have suggestions regarding using technology in writing and grammar? I hope to gain from your expertise and look forward to hearing your input.
Have a great New Year!

Hi!
ReplyDeleteI'll be your first comment and tell you that it looks great! I am with you as far as needing to educate myself before I am ready to educate my students. Will Richardson made such a great suggestion when he encouraged us (his readers) to play around, learn it in regards to a passion we have, and only then, try and teach it to our students (Richardson, 2009). He understands all too well (as we should about our own students) that passion is what will fuel our own drive to discover and learn.
I am excited about the learning that is taking place in this class...much more than some of the past ones, and I look forward to sharing ideas with each other.

Jane,
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. I know I have so much to learn, but I am so excited about it. I just completed a blog for my class, I think it will really help when my students are out. It is also a great place for parents to see what is going on.
Good Luck!
We really can't comprehend the magnitude of the impact of computer technology of our time. At least I can't. Students can multitask in ways that I never possibly could. It's new to me, but to them, it's a normal day. The world of complex systems and information processing really has made our students function a lot like the technology itself. That is not necessarily a bad thing. If we consider when was radical technology and forward thinking in the 50s is now a thing of reality, it leaves quite picture in our minds about the progress yet to came.
