Reflect...and take lots of notes!
What a journey, what an experience this has been. I must admit, I came to class hesitant and under the impression that this technology was more advanced than I was…how could I use this in my classroom? I realized that taking it a little piece at a time, (I tend to leap forward ten feet!) this was not only doable, but would be a great addition to my lessons as well as fun for my students. My first attempt was a huge success; the Schoology account has really taken off and proven to be a huge asset to both my students and myself. It is so convenient and really engages the students. Although there have been several glitches, teacher made I might add, it has been one of the best things I have incorporated into my classroom. Hopefully, it will continue to grow, which leads me to my point…finally! I have discovered that whatever the lesson, I must, must, must monitor and revise consistently. This has always been my intention, but I was negligent in the follow through. My next project, the digital storytelling is a new adventure that I am sure will be a hit, with the students as well as the audience in which they are presenting for. I am making a conscious effort to consistently monitor, revise and take notes, as this is the key for success in the future.

I, like you, have found this exercise to be pleasantly, surprisingly effective. Small steps, consistently revised and considered, have made more progress than large goals forgotten and unachieved. This may be one of the best lessons of all. I still need to check out the Schoology option. I am glad it worked so well for you. I am also excited about trying digital storytelling as I believe it will be well received and interesting for the students and audience. It was great sharing this journey with you.

Monitor and revise...sometimes when we finally get through a new process or activity, we are so exhausted, we leave off these important steps. Using this format to "monitor and revise" our own progress and productivity has reinforced the value in these two steps.
ReplyDeleteYou have done a great job of incorporating technology into your classes and I admire your ability to jump in and get going. I plan to check out the Schoology site and see all it has to offer...sounds like a great thing!
Until our next class, blogging experience, facebook chat, or whatever comes along...Jane
My first experience at digital storytelling was an experiement, we took the best essay on school uniforms and modeled the "looks". One of the "actors" came in baggy sweats and a hat. She asked who would hire her, then she took these off and had a suit underneath! It was quite entertaining and they loved it! After the holidays, full speed ahead...until Facebook girls, have a great holiday!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with you that monitoring goal and progress is one of the most difficult steps. Setting goals is easy; actually following through with them is much more difficult. I have found that blogging has helped me stay focused on meeting my goals. Each blog entry provides a checkpoint for my goal, but most importantly, it forces me to revisit my progress.
ReplyDeleteSimply revisiting the goal keeps me focused on its success.
